The hypocrisy of the religion of tolerance

Help me understand.

The California representative in the Miss USA competition exercised her right to free speech when asked her thoughts on gay marriage. As a result she lost the crown.

Was it an unfair question? Well, considering who asked it, you might make that assumption. And she was in the running for Miss USA, not a state house or Congress. Her answer was based on her religious conviction. So we're now to believe that a beauty pageant isn't about beauty at all, but political correctness.

But what I don't understand is why the head of the California Miss USA organization said, "People in California, more so than most states, are particularly passionate about overturning Prop 8 --especially those in the pageant/beauty world."

May I quote Steve Martin? Well excuuuuuuuuse me. But unless I'm lost in space, didn't the majority of voters in California defeat same sex marriage in November? What "people in California"? The minority?

So how does the reigning Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, not represent the values of the citizenry of her state? And how is it wrong for her to answer a question honestly and be condemned while the asker, a blogger, can be considered just in verbally cutting her to shreds?

Once again, the preachers of tolerance, the despisers of bigotry and bias show they are the most intolerant, biased and bigoted. Unless you agree with them.

Rick, you are so right. Christians are the most persecuted yet tolerant people in the world and yet because we have convictions, we are labeled and maligned. What Qualifies Perez Hilton to be taken more seriously? Nothing.

Rick, I want to thank you for speaking out about the injustice Miss California suffered. It does point out the intolerance of those who promote the homosexual agenda.

We need more Pastors and parishoners to stand up and spek out for the message of God. We should always love the sinner but call the sin out as opposed to the law of God.

Not to mention the fact that President Obama is on record as supporting the definition of marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman.
Why didn't Perez Hilton call Barack a b***h?

I do give her props for her answer during the show, but I also have to say that, watching the video and some of the other news about this, she seems to be shoving it down our throats now and using it as an opportunity to preach. If I was a neutral person watching all of this, I'd probably be disgusted by both of them at this point.

I have to say that part of the reason prop 8 passed here is because the way it was promoted was very confusing. If you voted "no" you were actually voting "yes" and vice versa. I know a lot of people who thought they were voting to keep same sex marriage legal, but it actually turned out that they voted to make it illegal. It was one big confusing mess. Especially because I'm sure many people didn't take the time to read the proposal and think things through. The ad campaigns were very deceiving and apparently successful. If we had to do it all over again, knowing what we know now, I'm sure there would have been a very different outcome.

Well, you had to have been there!

Anywayyy. That said, I agree that Miss CA had the right to say what ever. And I do think it was an inappropriate question to ask at a beauty pageant. But that's Perez Hilton for you. He knows how to stir up drama. Oy!

But I think an even more appropriate question we should all be asking ourselves is WHY on earth do we still have "beauty pageants"? I think that whole concept is very dated and sad. I think God sees us all as beautiful...not just the blonde bombshells who can teeter gracefully on 6 inch heels! But I digress.....

If there is one thing I can't tolerate is intolerance!

Perez's behavior was immature. I doubt he will ever be requested to return as a judge. You don't ask your contestant an "opinionated" question and then publicly ridicule their response.

As a Christian, I didn't care for this question on primetime television that children watch. It has been said that the pageant officials approved the question prior.

For the record, Miss CA needs to be quiet about losing the pageant due to this question. Miss NC rightfully won.....she had the highest score in both swimsuit and evening wear. Miss NC is an amazing person and deserved her win.

Thanks so much for posting this! My husband had told me about what had happened, but I hadn't seen any news stories on it.

What a testament to take the higher road & choose to look at what has happened as a blessing. She did a wonderful job of displaying what we are called to do as Christians by way of forgiveness & love. The Biblical perspective may give you the backlash & hate that she's received, but the heavenly reward trumps (for lack of a better word) whatever the world throws your way.

I completely agree with your posting. Those who are preaching tolerance are actually the most intolerant ones out there. They want you to be tolerant ONLY if it is in agreeance with their beliefs. If you disagree, then you are a bigot, narrow-minded, intolerant, stupid. It's absolutely insane and hypocrisy at it's best!
