Open Letter to a Church Hopper

Read the "letter" here.

One of our ministry team leaders sent me this link. First, the post is muy excelente. Second, Tim Stevens is the co-author of several of my very favorite books on church stuff. Outstanding stuff. Third, that one of our volunteer ministry leaders is reading his blog encourages me off the charts. (I'll bet she's read at least one of Tim's books.)

I read the "letter" and just said, "Amen!". I think Ed and Edith are now in Orlando.

(Thanks Tina.)

I feel frightfully convicted by your Church hopping posts. After 45+ years of staying within the Roman Catholic Church, my husband and I have moved through 3 different evangelical churches within the past 3 years. I'm unsettled by this but also struggling to be in the "right" place. Transitioning from a structured environment to one that seems to have an ever changing structure. . . rule set...agenda . . . is well, unsettling. You've given me a lot to think about. Thank you. We still don't know where we should be but we do know to Whom we belong.

I really enjoy your blog and find your posts very enlightening. I have not found what I believe yet(although I have searched and searched). I do wish I knew how to blindly follow in Christ or anything for that matter. I think it would bring internal peace to me.

Someday, I hope hope to find this. My thoughts are with Nate, Tricia and the baby today.

@labrunda,
I don't know the process you've followed to find these three churches, but sounds like something's not clicking somewhere.

That's why I always advise people to take their time when searching out a church home. Pray. Visit a church over and over if it "feels" right. Ask the right questions. (Maybe I should post on what questions to ask?)

@jersey girl,

Keep seeking. Here's what the Bible promises you -
"Without faith no one can please God. Anyone who comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who truly want to find him." (Hebrews 11:6)

Thank you for your response. Sample questions would be good! While Statements of Faith and doctrinal statements can be helpful, they don't always tell the whole story. Currently, we are considering membership with a small church, with solid teaching but a traditional style that may not be our first choice. It is also a fair distance from home. While our objective was not to join the closest church, it does impact our ability to participate on a more intimate basis with a church family. Prayer; prayer and more prayer. Thank you again for your thoughts . . . if/when you have time, a post on questions to consider in a search would be great. I know that I have emailed Pastors on a questions that weren't adressed in their public Doctrines or Statements of Faith. I've so appreciated those that have been able to respond.

Can we post this on the front doors of the church building?
