Bracing for a "Winter Storm"

Just in from the National Weather people: we're under a "winter storm warning" beginning at 4AM tomorrow. They're predicting we could get from 3-5 inches of white stuff. The grocers will be stripped bare tonight.

Now, for those of you in the northern climes, that's laughable, I know. But anything over 1/2 inch shuts this place down. No removal equipment and nobody knows how to drive in it! Our county goes into panic mode. Hurricanes we can handle. Snow, however is another story.

So, there will likely be snow men in everyone's yards. Skiiers will descend down the sand dunes. The kids will be bummed out because they're out of school already! I'll stay home and get some work done in front of the fireplace.

We're due. I can't remember the last real accumulation we had here. But I remember well the 13 inches we got back in '89...

Makes me appreciate the South even more.

There was a 10 inch storm our first winter here, 2001. Just drove from Pa. through snow all the way to Salisbury, Md. Joe says they have 4 inches on ground.

Hah. NJ isn't much better at handling the white stuff. I'd like some, it would make all this miserable cold weather worth it.

I live in Colorado so I am used to snow, but there is nothing better than being snowed in for a couple of days.

It's the same in London - half an inch is called "a blizzard", and everything stops working. As, indeed, it did in the South of France earlier this year - 1/2" of snow stopped all forms of public transport, just when we were trying to get back from holiday! We made it, but....

I'm already at home working. Unfortunately no fireplace. I'm starting early so I can squeeze in a snowy afternoon nap.

STILL WAITING. The kids are checking the windows and doors every 30 SECONDS or so, and they've been up since 5 so that's A LOT of checks. I sure hope it comes or we'll have a couple of disappointed children in my house.

I found out firsthand today, that weather the weather in Colington isn't necessarily the same as the weather in Manteo. Even though it's basically across the sound! They got an extra 1/2 hour of snow on us and we were bummed. but, we ended up with enough to have snow ball fights, make a partial snowman, and eat snowcream. Don't get much better than that!
