Church Sign "Evangelism"

I'm tagging off of Nathan's worship blog post.

The subject has been a peeve of mine for a long time. Fortunately I haven't been part of a church that felt compelled to put out "cute" sayings on their sign as a way of attracting the community into their doors.

But I've read some doozies. You probably have, too. Here are a couple of my "favorites" from local churches.

"Sinners welcome here". (I'll bet the cars were lined up to get in on Sunday morning...)

"Keep Christ in Christmas....Xmas Eve Service 7PM" (I'm not kidding.)

How about you? Got a real church sign zinger that made you just shake your head?

I'm not sure what to make of this one that sprouted here in town yesterday "No Necktie Summer - what a refreshing change"

I actually am looking for a church, and the fact that they have to ADVERTISE that you DON'T have to wear a necktie in the summer makes me think they might be a tad stuffy for my tastes...

This one almost made me drive off the road...
Posted in 100 degree heat in VA:
"If you think it's hot here now, wait 'til you experience hell."

I'm not kidding! Do you suppose they thought they could scare people into church?

Oh, these usually kill me.
Currently the worst in town:
Caution, exposure to the Son may prevent burning (however this sign will cause you to need to pull over and throw up)

And my all time fav (seriously was a sign)
Real leprechauns know that a rainbow is a promise from God

Can you believe that last one???? Oh my, too much. I don't know that the last one was so much evangelistic as just puzzling. May bring people in because they're thinking, "Hey, they've seen a real leprechaun"

One thing I wish more churches WOULD do - put their URL on the church sign. Of coure, that would ideally also mean that the church website is user-friendly to outsiders - which Internet Evangelism Day's church website design self-assessment tool tries to suggest.

"Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons--come hear one!" Yeah, that would make me want to rush right inside! Good grief, if God's message is so boring, I'd rather just stay in my own comfy pj's at home, of course I could go to a church advertising "Come as you are" in my pj's!!

"Try our Sundays they are better than Dairy Queen's."

"7 Days without prayer makes one weak"

I could go on for hours. I thought about making a coffee table book with pictures of church signs.
The title: "What Was This Church Thinking?"

How about the church signs with the pastor's name in plastic letters? Not planning on this preacher sticking around very long.
