Will you go to WalMart...?

I'm not a shopper. Like most men I avoid shopping at all costs, and when I do shop I go in, get what I already know I'm there to get, and get out. And on the Saturday before Christmas the last thing I want to do is go to WalMart. I'd rather get my teeth cleaned.

But on Saturday, Dec. 22 our phone rang and Gail answered. It was Tricia, calling from Durham. "There's this camera I want to give Nathan for Christmas..." and she gave Gail the details over the phone. "They've got one at Kitty Hawk and they're holding it for you. Will you go to WalMart and pick up this camera?"

On Saturday afternoons I find my leather recliner, a can of peanuts and the remote and hunker down. That's where I was when Tricia called. I have to admit, I didn't bounce up out of the recliner and run out the door on this mission. Let me say it again, it was the Saturday before Christmas at WalMart. That's like Times Square on New Year's Eve. But for Tricia I went. (She is my favorite daughter-in-law.)

I had no idea what that camera would do to mesmerize the blogosphere. Chances are you've seen the pics on my son's blog. If you haven't, you gotta see what that camera has done. It's a world changer, and I got to buy it.

So my New Year's resolution is: Any time TRICIA asks me to go to WalMart for her, I'm going. Even on the Saturday before Christmas.

Ha! Great story. I have a feeling that any time Tricia asks for anything we are all going to jump.

So no one has yet revealed what KIND of camera it is---please don't keep these kind of secrets!

that actually gave me goosebumps - just that God knew that a great camera would be coming in handy very soon. He knew what was going to come from that camera~ life-changing pictures have come from that camera ~great-lasting memories have come from that camera. Bravo to you for facing the crowd only days before Christmas.

Thanks again so much for keeping us "strangers" up to date. Strangers in this world, but all in the same family of God.

There you go Nate .. spill the specifics on the camera. That camera does take wonderful pictures, but the one thing I know about cameras is that the person holding the camera has to be able to eye the photo opportunity in order for the pictures to be outstanding. Nate, you are indeed a wonderful photographer and Tricia is going to love the pictures you've taken for her.

Thank you Daddy Rick for buying this for Tricia to give to Nate. What a wonderful thing for you to do (even on a Saturday before Christmas).

HHmmm... ya think Tricia has Rick wrapped around her finger? Wait and see what those new little fingers are going to accomplish! I can't wait to watch it :)

One of the honors of being the grampa, you got to buy the camera that shared a tiny little treasure with the world!

Rick,

Thanks for getting your lazy backside out of the recliner to go get Tricia the camera!
Oh, wait a second. You are a grandpa. You have the license to be lazy and sit in the recliner, you have entered that stage of life.

"Someone turn the heat up its cold in here! Throw a blanket on my legs. Gail, did I drink my metamucil today?"

Rick I would have to say that is a perfect example of "its not about me" thank you all for taking the time to share God's mercy and providence with us. What a beautiful family we all share through Christ.

Sigh. You've crossed over. Ever since Tricia was a child she had the power to woo anyone into doing pretty much anything. It's that irresistible bubbly charm coupled with her ability to ask even complete strangers the most bizarre questions or requests without raising an eyebrow. Truly, it's a gift.

I sit here laughing and crying at the same time with the rest of the world. What a blessing in life to know that you have family that will do such things for you... I pray that your family's journey shows the world His mercey but it also brings back the lost family ties that this world seems to be missing today. Thanks for keeping total strangers up to date on your family...we learned of you through the Leino's blog site and have been praying away.

I love this post. And I love knowing that what Tricia will want most of all when she wakes up is down on the fifth floor and no one will have to run to Walmart to get it!!! I pray she is reunited with Gwenyth just as soon as possible. What a time of rejoicing that will be. Praying for all of you daily and minute by minute as our Heavenly Father continues to amaze us all.

Hi Rick,
Pam Matthews here. We are praying for your family. Please tell Gail that we would be happy to talk with both of you having been down the premature baby road 4 1/2 years ago with Whit. It can be a real rollercoaster!
Our love, hearts and prayers go out to all of you!
Love, Pam

Thanks Pam.

And let me clarify something about this post so I'm not made out to be some kind of saint...

I didn't pay for the camera. Tricia did. I just went to WalMart and picked it up for her!

how very special, if only the rest of us could learn to look at the inconvient requests from those we love as a chance to serve God and to be blessed in return

I had a very good excuse not to be out shopping the Saturday before Christmas...No, I did not have all my shopping done :)...My youngest daughter, Savannah, w/ CF was in the hospital that week end. We just postponed our celebrating.

We continue to lift all of you ALL in prayer.

Mr LAWRENSON- I really appreciated this post. I recently found your sons blog and have been catching up on the many phases of their life together as they experience God, CF, pregnancy and now delivery.

Continue to be encouraged in the Lord and focus on the GOOD in these moments.

My family is praying for you, your wife, and your children. God Bless.
